Report: Sunderland and Sheffield United told how much Tom Cannon will cost, one club is ready to pay up

Sunderland is vying for Tom Cannon’s services once more. The Irishman even scored against the Black Cats over the weekend, and they have now made an attempt in a few transfer windows.

Before moving to Leicester City for £7.5 million from Everton in the summer of 2023, and again when the Foxes loaned him out in the summer of 2024, Tom Cannon is a name that seems to be always associated with a move to Sunderland.

The Irishman, who has subsequently scored nine goals in 22 Championship games, was acquired by Stoke City. Cannon scored in Stoke City’s 2-1 victory over Sunderland in the FA Cup third round last time out.

Both Sheffield United and Sunderland want Cannon to improve their chances of promotion this year.

Nixon says that Sheffield United is “being backed” by its new owners and that the Blades are “ready to go to £7million” to win the race for Cannon. This is concerning for Sunderland, as Nixon also says that it appears to be a fight between Sunderland and Sheffield United.

With just two points separating the two teams, the Blades are currently in third position and Sunderland is in fourth place in the Championship table. Sunderland defeated Sheffield United 2-1 on New Year’s Day at the Stadium of

How much did Sunderland bid for Tom Cannon on deadline day last summer?

On deadline day last summer, Sunderland attempted to acquire Cannon from Leicester City. In the lead-up to the final, when Sunderland signed four other players, the Black Cats submitted a £5 million bid for the striker.

It’s safe to think that Sunderland would spend an additional £2 million to recruit Cannon, a player they obviously like, in the midst of this promotion campaign. However, the Sunderland owners might be more frugal with their expenditures in the rest of January now that Enzo Le Fee is on loan.

Sheffield United appears to be in the lead at the moment and has a chance of winning as well.
