Patrick Bamford exit: Leeds escape route possible after Blackburn boss admission

After John Eustace was admitted to Blackburn Rovers, Patrick Bamford was given a possible way out of Leeds United.

Many clubs, notably Championship rivals Blackburn, have expressed interest in signing Birmingham despite the Whites’ insistence that he not leave Elland Road this month [Graham Smyth].

Eustace fuelled the rumours that Bamford would soon leave Leeds when the Blackburn manager acknowledged in the Lancashire Telegraph (January 14) that he is on the list of objectives at Ewood Park.

“Patrick is a very good player,” he remarked. He plays for a big club in Leeds and is a reliable player at this level. I played with him at Derby when he first started out.

However, a lot of names will be directed at me, and I’ll just respond that they’re terrific players. The club would have to be consulted. We have examined a long number of players, including him, but we will have to see.

Leeds United should sell Patrick Bamford to Blackburn Rovers

The Championship campaign is a long and gruelling endeavour, and Daniel Farke is wise to head into the business end of the season with a large squad.

However, in the case of Bamford, it seems implausible to force the 31-year-old to remain put at Elland Road, considering his lack of game time thus far this season.

Bamford has accumulated a measly 123 minutes of Championship football this season, with his 25-minute cameo during the 1-1 draw against Preston North End on 14 December his most notable impact to date.

From his 10 substitute appearances, he has failed to register a single goal contribution as striker duo Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe freeze him out of the first-team frame.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford

Patrick Bamford has struggled at Leeds United.

Farke need to be prepared to give the former England player a chance to go this month as he is pleading for one.

Why put off the inevitable when it is obvious that he is no longer a valued member of the squad and that his services are no longer needed?

Thank Bamford for his efforts at Elland Road, and make the deal happen. This might be Farke’s last chance to recover a small sum for a forward who has no future in West Yorkshire.
