“I’m very disappointed” – Reaction given to West Brom, Raphael Wicky update
The agreement for former Young Boys manager Raphael Wicky to take over at The Hawthorns fell through, thus he will not be the future manager of West Bromwich Albion. Since Carlos Corberan left to take over at Valencia in Spain on Christmas Eve, West Brom has been searching for a new manager. It was said last week that they were getting close to hiring Wicky. However, Wicky will not be identified as Corberan’s replacement, and the club is no longer in contact with the 47-year-old after he was “unable to assemble his preferred backroom staff,” according to journalist John Percy.
It is unclear if the Baggies will now turn back to Rene Hake or Tony Mowbray, who are both rumored to have spoken to the club over their open managerial position, as negotiations are now scheduled to resume with other applicants. Albion is now sixth in the Championship standings, and Chris Brunt, Boaz Myhill, and Damia Abella will continue to be in caretaker charge for Saturday’s home match against Stoke City unless they can arrange an appointment this week.
When the Raphael Wicky deal falls through, a West Brom fan commentator responds.
When asked how he feels about the news that Wicky won’t be taking over at The Hawthorns, West Brom fan commentator Callum Burgess of FLW said that he is sad. He also inquired why the backroom personnel issue did not come up sooner in the negotiations. “Personally, I’m very disappointed to see that the deal for us to appoint Raphael Wicky has fallen through at a very late stage, especially over an issue about backroom staff,” Callum stated. “You would imagine that this is something that would have come up during discussions to get to a stage where it had become advanced, I’m surprised this didn’t come up sooner.”You would think that it would have been brought up at the beginning of the conversations.
“It had almost been going too well for Albion fans when it seemed that Andrew Nestor and Ian Pearce had done a very thorough search that led to us appointing a potentially decent manager in Raphael Wicky.”He had a respectable pedigree from his time at Young Boys, where he performed the double, but I didn’t know anything about him until the links surfaced. It’s a little frustrating to see everything fall through because Albion could have been a true coup for us, and it did excite Albion fans to see what plans he had in store for us.”
