“If moving to Blackburn is the opportunity” – Leeds United urged to make ruthless Patrick Bamford transfer decision

Leeds United have been informed both the club and Patrick Bamford could benefit if the striker leaves Elland Road before the transfer deadline.

Since joining Leeds United in 2018, the 31-year-old has played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League and subsequent top 10 finish under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

However, the previous few years have been more difficult for both Bamford and Leeds, with the ex-Middlesbrough star making only ten Championship outings this season and yet to score.

Patrick Bamford transfer: latest

The England international is now sidelined due to a hamstring injury.

Blackburn are reportedly interested in signing Bamford, who is expected to return to action by the end of the month.

According to rumours, Daniel Farke is hesitant to approve Bamford’s departure since Joe Gelhardt, another offensive option, is likely to join Hull City.

When asked if this was the proper approach, fan pundit Kris Smith stated that he would let Bamford go if Leeds could find a successor, and that the player would benefit from a fresh start.

“For me, the ship has truly sailed for Bamford at Leeds in terms of him being a viable option for us moving forward.” It’s not Bamford’s fault; the only reason this is an issue is because he can’t stay fit for long periods of time.

“The concept of a completely fit, sharp Bamford is a great one, especially in the Championship; we witnessed it from January to March last season under Farke. And, while that player is one that Leeds should maintain, the idea that Bamford is that type of player for us is far from reality.

“That makes me wonder why we’re still retaining him and trying to make it happen. It seemed unlikely that he will ever reach those peaks again.

“Luke Ayling’s move to Middlesbrough last January demonstrated to me that there is life after the Leeds era for the old guard, including Bamford.” If moving to Blackburn allows him to leave Leeds and put his problems behind him, I believe we should consider allowing him go on his own, as long as we can find a successor.

“Joe Gelhardt’s move to Hull is likely to influence Farke’s decision to keep Bamford, which is frustrating for both the player and the club.” However, we have a vital place in this squad that is currently occupied by someone who isn’t bringing us anything since he is continually injured.”

Leeds United’s striker situation

In a perfect scenario, Leeds would release Bamford and sign a new number nine in this window.

However, it is not often that simple, and Farke is absolutely correct to insist on maintaining Bamford until a replacement is found.

Signing players during this time might be challenging, especially for Leeds, who aspire to return to the Premier League.

Championship Table (as of 14/1/25)
Team P GD Pts
1 Leeds United 26 29 53
2 Burnley 26 22 52
3 Sheffield United 26 19 52
4 Sunderland 26 17 50
5 Middlesbrough 26 11 41
6 West Brom 26 11 40

So, a lot has to fall into place for this to happen, and it appears like Bamford will stay at Elland Road past the deadline. Then the goal will shift to keeping him fit and accessible, as he might still play a significant role in the promotion push this season.
