“Another Premier League loan” – Norwich City backed to respond to Liverpool decision

After being called back by Premier League leaders Liverpool from his loan stint with Norwich City, led by Johannes Hoff Throup, Kaide Gordon has rejoined the Reds.

The winger moved from Anfield to Carrow Road in the summer, but was unable to contribute much during his stay in Norfolk. His ten appearances between this summer and last highlighted the need for him to play more football.

The two clubs have finally decided on that, and the 20-year-old is coming back to Merseyside after only 181 minutes of play in the second division, with one goal to his credit.

Following that departure, we spoke to Football League World’s Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes about the situation, and whether his club will miss the wide man during the second-half of the campaign.

Kaide Gordon fails to live up to expectations after Norwich City switch

Gordon had a lot of expectations going into this season, just like any other loanee from one of the best teams in the world, as he sought to compete against the best in the EFL.

The youthful player, however, has struggled to establish himself instead of shining in East Anglia. During his tenure with the Canaries, he was given just one start, in a 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in November.

Other than that, the attacker has been forced to start from the bench. In his third game for the team, he scored his lone goal in such a situation as he assisted City in defeating Hull 4-0 in his first few days there.

Since then, he has made very few appearances. On New Year’s Day, he made a late cameo against Coventry City, which turned the game on its head with a late brace from Amankwah Forson. This was his final appearance in a yellow and green shirt.

The writing looked to be on the wall for the young forward heading into the month, and as Arne Slot’s side made the decision to bring him back to the North West, Downes isn’t all too surprised by the actions that were taken.

When asked about the situation, the Canaries fan said: “Kaide Gordon going back to Liverpool is something that looked like it was always going to happen, because other than the first couple of games, he wasn’t really doing a lot; wasn’t getting on the pitch and wasn’t influencing anything.

“He didn’t seem very prepared, which is unfortunate since in the last game against Coventry, he appeared quite engaged and passionate. He even told Forson that when we tied the score, we could go on and win.

Given that he is at Liverpool and they share that mindset, it is clear that he has learnt it.

Norwich City have the chance to make Kaide Gordon improvement in January

As the second half of the season approaches, Norwich will be among a number of teams hoping to place in the top six at the end of the season, with the Championship play-offs still within striking reach.

In the upcoming weeks, City will have the ideal chance to improve on Gordon as they attempt to move forward following a patchy start to Thorup’s tenure at Carrow Road. With their high goals, they cannot afford to have players on their roster who are finding it difficult to impact games.

The Norfolk team has already taken action to sign another top flight player on loan in January, as Lewis Dobbin [pictured] of Aston Villa will join until the end of the season, moving to another Championship team.

Downes is certain that another name can be recruited in the wide attacking areas soon because the January transfer window is still open and Gordon’s presence will soon be forgotten.

“It is a little unfortunate, but I don’t believe he is at the level that we need him at,” he added. Although he might not play in the middle of the table or the top half, he could be a Championship player.

“It really makes sense for everyone, and hopefully we can get another loan from the Premier League instead.”
