Alex Neil delivers verdict as Millwall set up Leeds FA Cup clash following Dagenham & Redbridge win
When Millwall defeated Dagenham & Redbridge at The Den in the FA Cup third round, Alex Neil was pleased with what he witnessed. Casper De Norre, Ra’ees Bangura-Williams, and Mihailo Ivanovic all scored goals as the Lions defeated their National League rivals 3-0.After Dagenham picked up their game after the half to give Neil his first victory as manager and set up a fourth-round matchup at Leeds United, Millwall ended the match with two goals in the final 20 minutes.
The Scot said, “I did,” in response to a question about if he enjoyed what he saw on ITV after the game. We did a good job moving the ball, so I felt the game was fun. We likely ought to have scored more goals, but we only managed three. You must acknowledge Dagenham’s contributions. They made it difficult for us by remaining in the game. I believed that the game began to get away from them a bit after we scored the second goal.
“But nothing compares to having a few young men on the field and having one of them [Bangura-Williams] put the ball in the net.” It’s a wonderful experience for them, as well as for me to see and the supporters. Despite being the Championship’s joint-lowest scorers, the Lions have scored five goals in their last two games.
But considering the standing of Monday night’s opponents, Neil isn’t getting ahead of himself just yet. He responded, “It’s difficult to say; it’s a cup tie, we’re at home and playing a team in the Conference, so that’s not going to have any bearing on how many goals we score going forward in the Championship,” when asked if the Lions’ cup treble was an indication that the goals were beginning to flow. However, we’re hopeful that some of the patterns and rotations we’ve included may be beneficial. If we can, we’ll try to set more targets.
