After firing Matt Eberflus in the middle of the 2024 campaign, the Bears want an interview with Freeman to potentially be their next head coach, according to a report Sunday from the NFL Network.
First, however, Freeman will have to lead Notre Dame past Ohio State in the national title game. The Fighting Irish took out Penn State in a narrow fashion to punch their tickets.
“Obviously unlikely he would entertain NFL overtures prior to that game – a week from tomorrow against Ohio State,” reported insider Tom Pelissero on NFL Network. “But the Bears have done extensive research for months on Marcus Freeman. He’s only 39 years old. It would not be a shock that at some point he at least considers going to the NFL.”
Per the NFL Network, the Bears will also be interviewing Kliff Kingsbury (Washington Commanders), Brian Flores (Minnesota Vikings), Arthur Smith (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Todd Monken (Baltimore Ravens).
Marcus Freeman ain’t leaving Notre Dame for the Chicago Bears … he’d be a fool to do so.
