With the recent reports, from Alan Nixon, stating that both Sheffield United and Sunderland are willing to agree to a loan-to-buy deal for Leicester City striker Tom Cannon, who is currently on loan at Stoke City, there has been an interesting twist in the last 24 hours.
It has recently been confirmed by Walsall Football Club, on Twitter, that 19-year-old forward Nathan Lowe has had his recall option triggered by his parent club Stoke City. Lowe scored 15 goals and provided five assists for the League Two table toppers in just 22 appearances
Why should we be bothered by this? Well, it does suggest that either Stoke City want to loan him out to a League One team for the rest of the season, or perhaps they’ve done this because Leicester City are thinking of recalling Tom Cannon from Stoke in the coming weeks.
Cannon has scored nine goals in 22 appearances during his loan spell with The Potters, and if they were to lose him it would be a major blow. But, it is out of their hands because if United or Sunderland agree a fee for the loan-to-buy deal then the on loan Leicester striker will be saying farewell to those at the Bet365 stadium.
Leicester City Boss Adds Yet More Fuel to Rumour Linking Tom Cannon to Sheffield United & Sunderland
Ruud Van Nistelrooy, the Leicester City boss, has recently spoken about the Irishman’s possibility of being recalled. He said to BBC Sport, “He’s definitely one on the list that we keep a close eye on. Tom’s situation is closely assessed and there’s a decision to be made. We’re looking in this window as to what’s best for him and for the club.”
While Cannon is a very good finisher for this level, and has potential to get even better. In fact, according to this graphic published on Twitter back in December, Cannon is consistently firing shots towards the corners of the goal from open play. You can also see Kieffer Moore on this list – while he regularly registers his shots into the corners, he rarely shoots from open play.
Like most strikers, he relies on chances being created for him, and right now the Blades have largely shown inconsistencies in this department all season. However, perhaps that would change with attacking options supporting a striker such as: Ben Brereton Diaz, whose an explosive inverted left-winger, Gustavo Hamer, who is better suited to a central attacking position, and the dynamic two-footed wide man that is Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
