Reading FC Ratings: Bindon standout in Burnley defeat
Reading’s Tyler Bindon clears the ball from Derby County’s James Collins during a Sky Bet League One match at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading. The picture was taken on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Reading were eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round after losing 3-1 in extra time to Burnley. Lyle Foster opened the scoring for the Clarets, but Lewis Wing took advantage of poor goalkeeping to draw the game and force extra time. Running out of steam after the restart, Zian Flemming scored twice to secure Scott Parker’s team’s deserved Round Four spot.
Take a peek at our ratings. David Button: 5 Did little wrong and made some good saves, but could have done better for Flemming’s extra-time goals, which ultimately made the difference. Tivonge Rushesha, 6: Despite being given a hard time out wide with veteran wingers on display, he did little wrong and has established himself as a League One possibility in the future. Tyler Bindon, 8: Looked like the greatest defender on the pitch, oozing quality. Great with the ball at his feet, he flung his body in the way of everything. A truly outstanding performance against the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Ashley Barnes.
Harlee Dean, 6: A strong performance from the seasoned defender, who is still working his way back into regular playing time. Reading handled with the majority of the action in the middle of the pitch; it was out wide that the team handed up chances. Abraham Kanu (7: The youngster delivered an excellent performance, defending admirably throughout. He handled his opponent physically, although the left had a lower attacking danger. Lewis Wing, 6: Keeps the ball moving and makes some solid passes. He got his name on the scoreboard, although in fairly fortunate circumstances. Did well on the dirty side, winning several heavy tackles. Charle Savage, 6: Pressed hard and ran the normal ‘Savage’ style against a young opposing midfield. Had fewer opportunities to shoot than usual.
Harvey Knibbs, 6: Ran into the ground and nearly threaded a ball through on several occasions. Almost on the scoreboard, but for a fantastic block in the box. Jayden Wareham, age six: Improved as the game progressed, albeit it began poorly. We ran the channels hard and won possession out wide numerous times. Sam Smith, 6: A difficult afternoon against a pair of highly experienced centre defenders. Had little chances on goal, but worked well with the midfield. Kelvin Abrefa, 5: Like at Charlton, the full-back played further up the pitch. Not as effective as he was in the Valley, and his crosses were subpar.
Substitutes
Louie Holzman, 6: Strong showing off the bench from the youngster, who defended well but needed to be calmer in possession.
Emmanuel Osho, 6: Lots of energy from the teenager. A decent cameo.
