Patrick Bamford may leave Leeds United during the January transfer window, with Blackburn Rovers expressing interest in the 31-year-old forward.
According to reports, Blackburn Rovers are ‘admirers’ of Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford and may make a January transfer move for him. John Eustace’s side is trying to enhance their roster for the remainder of the season, and a new striker is needed.
Rovers, who defeated Leeds 1-0 in November before drawing 1-1 at Elland Road on New Year’s Day, are seventh in the Championship table and have a legitimate chance of finishing in the play-offs.
However, Blackburn’s lack of potency is a legitimate concern. This season, they have only scored 28 goals in 25 league matches, the lowest total of any team in the top half.
With this in mind, it’s hardly surprising that Eustace wants to reinforce his front line. According to journalist Alan Nixon, Blackburn is interested in Bamford and hopes to sign him this month.
Leeds are keen to keep Bamford for the time being. This is because, with Joe Gelhardt scheduled to join Hull City next week, Daniel Farke is unlikely to be willing to lose a second striker without bringing in another.
It is not Farke’s customary tactic to panic sign in the transfer window, thus Bamford’s departure is unlikely until at least the summer. Leeds currently has other centre forward alternatives in Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph, however Largie Ramazani and Wilfried Gnonto can also play up front.
Bamford has yet to score in 11 appearances this season. He has only started once, in the Carabao Cup defeat to Middlesbrough in August, and has played 213 minutes.
He has not played since the draw with Blackburn on January 1 owing to a hamstring injury. Farke issued an update on Bamford’s status on Thursday, revealing he may not be available until early February. He explained: “Unfortunately, it is a more significant injury. He suffered a hamstring injury during the Blackburn game and will be sidelined for four weeks in total. Depending on the therapy, it could last a few more days or perhaps shorter.
