FA Cup – Newcastle vs. Bromley – Eddie Howe: Pre-Match Press Conference.

Golden nuggets from Howe before Newcastle’s Broom Broom! Newcastle United host League Two side Bromley in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, hoping to keep their winning streak going and go on another promising cup run similar to the one they are currently on in the Carabao Cup. The Magpies enter the game after defeating Arsenal 2-0 in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, extending their winning record to seven in a row across all competitions.

Eddie Howe is anticipated to heavily rotate his team to manage injuries and weariness, with Sven Botman, Joe Willock, and Alexander Isak all likely out after picking up knocks against Arsenal. However, Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes have returned from suspension, and Harvey Barnes and Sean Longstaff are expected to be called upon. Super-backup William Osula might possibly start as Newcastle seeks to balance their resources in a hectic schedule. Bromley, who were recently promoted to League Two, have impressed this season and will go into the game with confidence, despite a recent 4-1 loss to Crewe Alexandra. Striker Michael Cheek, who has 12 goals this season, leads their attack and offers the greatest threat to Newcastle’s defence.

Manager Andy Woodman, a former Newcastle goalkeeping coach, will be eager to motivate his team against a Premier League juggernaut, but it will most likely be in vain, as NUFC is predicted to breeze through and punch a ticket to the next round on their route to hoisting the cup in a few weeks. Here are some of Howe’s statements prior of the game, taken from Newcastle United’s official website.

On Alexander Isak, who has scored 14 goals in his last 15 competitive matches for the Magpies:

“He’s seeing his physio right now, and we’ve given him a couple of days off, but we believe he’s in good shape, and he’ll report back tomorrow for a thorough examination. “We would have probably involved him in some way [against Bromley] but with what’s happened, he’ll probably be given this game to rest and get himself right for our future schedule.” Martin Dúbravka has kept five clean sheets in his previous seven competitive matches: “He’s been an excellent professional for us. He’s joined the team, and everyone compliments him because it’s difficult being a custodian. When Nick was playing he wasn’t, he had to stay ready and had to stay focused. I know how much Newcastle means to him and you can see that. Emotionally he’s very invested. All those things will be playing a part into his decision making and our decision making. Hopefully there’s a successful outcome at the end.”

On squad rotation ahead of taking on the League Two side:

“That is the balance we will face this weekend. We knew going into the Arsenal game that the guys who had played the most of the minutes were in good mental shape, but physically they were a touch tired. “We always knew this game was coming up in a short period of time and that we would have to rotate our team, but we have very excellent players who are eager to play and demonstrate their abilities. “It’s a good game for them to showcase those qualities but also we have to get through, that is our aim, so we have to pick a strong enough squad.” On aiming to run in this year’s competition:

“The desire is present. We do not prioritise one competition above another. We want to win the next game, so that’s how we’ll approach this season, and this one will be no exception. “The preparation will be precisely the same as usual. We’ll research our opponent well and show them the utmost respect while attempting to win the match.” In the competition, United has won the trophy six times: “It is still the FA Cup. I don’t think it has changed at all. When I was younger, the FA Cup was a competition that drew me into football.

“The knockout competition and the drama it provided was one of the first things that drew me in. There is still magic about it, and we are on the other side of this game, where Bromley will have all of the hope and magic of the cup. “We need to make sure we’re really professional and try to get the job done.” Upon returning to St. James’ Park: “The three away games (against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal) were fantastic for us, but they were tiring. It’s fantastic to be back home, and we’re going for a little run.

“In these games, they’re never easy home or away but I think it’s nice not to be travelling again from our perspective.”
