David Moyes sends Everton new stadium message and outlines ‘elite’ transfer plan

Returning Everton manager David Moyes is looking up to the idea of being the Blues boss who not only takes control of the squad at Goodison Park for the final time but leads them into their new stadium, but he recognizes that they need “elite” players to match their future home.
Everton will abandon Goodison Park, the first purpose-built football venue in England where they have played since 1892 at the conclusion of this season and make the two-mile trek to the new 52,888 capacity Everton Stadium on the Mersey riverfront for the start of the 2025/26 season.
Speaking in his first press conference since becoming Everton manager for the second time, the 61-year-old, who steered the Blues to nine top half finishes during his first spell between 2002-13, including their best ever Premier League placing of fourth in 2004/05, said: “Winning football matches is always a priority, isn’t it? There are also things like building a club back up if feasible.
“I don’t think it’s been done by any managers, I think the damage has been done over a long period of time but I actually think I had a great time here, I’d love to be part of making it better if possible.
“I believe at the end of it, there’s a stadium and the stadium looks the business, it looks elite.
“So we need to start getting some elite players. We need to start looking at the caliber of the players that can provide everyone something to cheer about when we move to the new stadium.”
