Celtic sponsors troll Union Bears over Ibrox walkout as 55th minute protest backfires
By swarming the exits during the match against St Johnstone, the Rangers ultras provoked an angry reaction from their
fellow supporters at Ibrox.
Following Sunday’s dramatic failure of the Union Bears’ walkout protest at Ibrox, Celtic’s sponsors have made fun of the
team.
As Philippe Clement’s ailing team got back to winning ways at home against St Johnstone, Rangers ultras silently treated
their struggling heroes. When banners were unfurled and the board was blasted, the ardent supporters of the club raised
their voices, but otherwise, you could have heard a pin drop in the Copland Stand singing section.
Following their prearranged demonstration against the blazers in control, the influential group rushed for the exits
in the 55th minute to a chorus of jeers. The vast majority of the stadium was incensed and chose to remain seated as
the Light Blues won 3-1.
The unbowed ultras made it apparent that they continue to want change in the dugout and in the boardroom, and
that their protests would not end. A statement said: “We are grateful to all Rangers supporters who took part in
today’s protests. We won’t give up until our club experiences genuine change.
However, the misguided act of disobedience caused social media chaos on the opposite side of the city, with Celtic
supporters making fun of the civil war that erupted in the stands. Dafabet, the Parkhead club’s front-of-shirt
sponsors, couldn’t help but make fun of the Union Bears on X, writing: “As I laugh at the TV, I can’t [sic] help think
of the fans walking out their ‘living rooms’ on the 55th minute.”
Hoops followers quickly latched on to the wind-up, with one quipping: “switching firesticks off at 55..”. Another
posted: “Dafabet I wasn’t aware of your game”. While a third added: “Never had a bad word to say about dafabet.”
