Callum McGregor’s Plea: Celtic Must Keep Kyogo Amid Transfer Speculation

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has highlighted the unclear future of Kyogo Furuhashi at the club, with the Japanese striker linked with a transfer to MLS side Atlanta United.

Atlanta, who are led by former Hoops manager Ronny Deila with Kenny Miller as his assistant, are rumored to be interested in a £10 million move for Kyogo when the transfer market starts on January 31st and continues until April 23rd.

However, McGregor is anxious to see Kyogo remain, with the Celtic striker bagging a brace against Ross County in Dingwall on Saturday.

McGregor said: (Daily Mail), “He’s a top player and has given us so many good memories in such big games.

“He’s been the difference; he’s been decisive for us. I’ve probably ran out of superlatives for him, to be honest. But he’s still such a large and crucial part of what we’re doing and we’re extremely blessed to have him as well.

“So, I’m sure that the club will want to keep him as long as we can because he’s a huge player for us and, again, in sticky games like this, he can come in and make the difference and that’s what you need for your strikers.

“His record’s been incredible since he came in. That’s what this club is. We always want to keep going ahead and, if there’s business to be done, then we want to do it and just keep pushing people in the right direction.”

Rumours of a Kyogo transfer definitely came out of nowhere in recent weeks, with the MLS website even inadvertently claiming that he had signed for Atlanta United on Wednesday during Celtic’s 2-0 victory over Dundee United at Celtic Park.

However, Atlanta are now thought to be chasing former Celtic striker Odsonne Édouard and Middlesbrough attacker Emmanuel Latte Lath instead.

Great players will always be connected with transfers away, and Kyogo is absolutely no exception.

Given the particular bond that he has created with the Celtic faithful, at 29 years old, he will be in no haste to quit the club, despite what some in the media may think.
