Birmingham City could be without five players for Vertu Trophy clash at Swindon
Chris Davies, the manager of Birmingham City, may be without five members of the first team for Tuesday’s Vertu Trophy last-16 matchup against Swindon Town. In an attempt to prolong their journey to Wembley, the Blues take on the Robins in the southern portion of the Trophy quarterfinals. However, they will be without several key players because of injury, and Jay Stansfield and Kristian Bielik, two important players, are in question. After missing the previous two games due to knocks, Bielik and Stansfield seem to be the closest to making a comeback. “They are niggles more than anything else, they aren’t long-term injuries,” Davies stated in a statement on Thursday. Alfons Sampsted, an Icelandic full-back, made a comeback against Lincoln on Saturday, while Keshi Anderson and Emil Hansson are still out. Before the Blues play Swindon, here is the most recent injury news.
Bielik, Krystian
Injury: Unspecified Bielik has missed the Blues’ games against Wigan and Lincoln because of severe bruises and bruising sustained following the New Year’s Day tie with Stockport. The Pole might make a comeback this week, but Davies might hold off on bringing his skipper back until Saturday’s game against Exeter City.
Stansfield, Jay
Injury: Stansfield’s injury was not detailed, however he seemed uncomfortable after being replaced at Stockport and was seen talking about it with the bench physiotherapists. The 22-year-old is eager to play on Saturday against Exeter City, his previous team, at St Andrew’s.
Anderson, Keshi
Injury: The in-form winger Anderson is now expected to miss some time with the team after complaining of discomfort halfway through the Boxing Day tie with Burton Albion. Although Davies is adamant that Anderson won’t be sidelined for long, the 29-year-old is not anticipated to play against his previous team, Swindon. On December 29, Hansson started his first game in over two months against Blackpool, however he was sidelined just before halftime by yet another injury. Like the one he had suffered the last time, Hansson pulled up alone and motioned for someone to take his spot right away. In terms of his recuperation time, Hansson is lagging behind Anderson.
