Police cordon near Riverside on Norwich City match day

A police cordon has been put in place close to Norwich City’s ground just hours before the Canaries entertain Brighton and Hove Albion.

The cordon, which has been in place since this morning, has blocked off a section of the Riverside footpath, close to the Carrow Road stadium.

It is situated outside Bridgemaster Court, a residential block close to the Novi Sad Friendship Bridge, and extended the width of the building, ending close to the car park of the Riverside Leisure Centre.

Officers at the scene said they had been there since around 7am, but were unable to confirm any details of why the cordon was put in place.

The cordon has been marked using police tape and inside several objects lay strewn across the pavement, including towels, rucksacks and an empty glass alcohol bottle.

An officer added that it was not clear whether the cordon would be removed in time for the FA Cup fixture, which kicks off at 3pm.

He said that if it was, supporters would need to take a short diversion around the building via Wherry Road.

Attempts have been made to contact Norfolk Constabulary for further details.
