Police close section of M65 after incident between Nelson and Colne

A car fire has forced police to halt a part of the M65 near Nelson and Colne.

Earlier this afternoon (Saturday), drivers were stuck in large lines heading eastbound towards junction 13 and Nelson.

Traffic has backed up to Junction 12, and cars were being routed off the M65 at Junction 13, near Nelson and Colne College.

Drivers reported witnessing a burned-out automobile between Nelson and Colne, at the end of M65 and Boundary Mill.

Emergency crews were present and dealing with the event.

Motorists were advised to avoid the route if possible, and those exiting junction 13 will be rerouted onto Gisburn Road. The motorway looked to have reopened after 3 p.m.

Traffic was being diverted off the M65 eastboun.

Nelson FC previously displayed this message asking cars to exit at junction 12. People heading to the game would ordinarily exit at junction 13 for a 3 p.m. home fixture.
