Leeds United will not make a move for Coventry City captain Ben Sheaf this month, despite rumours claiming an £8 million plan at Elland Road to sign the midfielder.
The Whites’ focus has now shifted back to Championship promotion and the remainder of the January transfer window, with the party line continuing that Leeds are set for a quiet window.
However, as has been the case since relegation, Daniel Farke is eager to take advantage of any market opportunities that arise.
Leeds United ‘linked’ with £8million Ben Sheaf transfer
LeedsUnited.news revealed earlier in January that Leeds were unexpectedly keeping tabs on Coventry City’s predicament under Frank Lampard.
The Sky Blues were reportedly willing to balance the books by selling midfield captain Ben Sheaf for £8 million this month.
As a result, Leeds were reportedly monitoring the situation ahead of potentially stealing the 26-year-old from their league rivals.
Leeds Ben Sheaf transfer rumour rubbished amid huge Ilia Gruev boost
However, already appearing as an odd transfer for Leeds in a “quiet” month, it has subsequently been rubbished by the YEP’s Joe Donnohue on X.
This comes as a significant boost for Farke, who welcomed defensive midfielder Ilia Gruev back into full squad training this week.
Gruev’s teammates, dubbed “maestro” by Junior Firpo and Mateo Joseph in his Instagram comments, reacted positively to the development.
