‘Have to win’ – Sheffield Wednesday boss makes Owls claim after Coventry City defeat
After Liam Kitching gave the home team the lead in the first half, the Owls rallied once more to tie the score. Anthony Musaba scored late to force extra time, but after another half and half, the game was won by a shootout.
Olaf Kobacki, who had just recovered from an injury, had his game-winning penalty saved, and Wednesday lost in the third round of the competition in a manner reminiscent of their recent Carabao Cup elimination to Brentford.Röhl commended his team’s overall performance but again emphasized their performance in the last third, stating that they couldn’t win games with “just two shots on target.”
He then told The Star, “I think my team deserves a lot of credit for coming back again.” “We deserve to win, so we must win this game. We had possession of the ball and, I believe, controlled the game in the second half. We had some excellent situations up to the last third, but two shots on goal is insufficient for everything we’re doing. This is a significant portion.
“It demonstrates where we are right now to come to Coventry and control the game in this way. This is the cup, though, and we lost. Since it’s 50/50 after the shootout, I believe we should have settled this game beforehand. Overall, this game has many excellent aspects, but I’m a little disappointed with the outcome. As the January transfer window comes to an end, it is practically a given that Röhl will make a number of changes as the Owls focus on their match against Leeds United next weekend in an attempt to get back to winning ways.
