B B C Sports: John Eustace opens up on Blackburn Rovers future amid West Brom links.
John Eustace has replied to questions over his future at Blackburn Rovers, citing West Brom links.
BBC On the Liquidator podcast, journalist Chris Lepkowski suggested that the 45-year-old would accept a move to Albion if approached. However, Football Insider reports that Dutch coach Rene Hake is closing in on the role at the Hawthorns. West Brom are looking for a replacement for Carlos Corberan, who moved to Spanish club Valencia at the end of December.
John Eustace opens up on West Brom speculation
Eustace believes that the team’s performance this year justifies questions about his future, but that he is content at Blackburn. He has renewed his commitment to the Lancashire club and is intent on preserving the team’s great form heading into the second half of the season. “It is not the first time this season that has happened,” Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph. “Obviously, the football club is doing very well right now, and we are being linked with players coming here who may be ‘too good’ for us. “Because we are doing well, this is occurring. “We’re receiving links to players departing. “It’s all part of the job, I am very happy here at this football club.
“I said I wanted to come in and build something special.
“Up to now, we have done that and it is important in the second half of the season that we stay competitive, invest and keep building something special.”

Blackburn are now seventh in the Championship league, one point behind sixth-placed West Brom but with a game in hand. Eustace took over the club last year and kept it in the second level with a 19th-place finish, just three points above the relegation zone. He has received a lot of accolades for the team’s development this season. Blackburn’s next FA Cup match is against Middlesbrough on Saturday, kickoff at 12pm.
Eustace stance is a big boost for Blackburn
Eustace has done an excellent job since taking over at Ewood Park, especially given the departure of Sammie Szmodics in the summer. Rovers are in the running for a play-off spot, which would be a fantastic outcome for their season if they can pull it off. Maintaining Eustace will be critical, therefore these comments will be welcomed by supporters. A move to West Brom would have been especially painful given that both clubs are aiming for a top-six finish this season.
