A shocking video shows the moment a heedless driver behind the wheel of a stolen car ploughs into a police officer.
Marvin Geddes, 33, was traveling at roughly 40 mph when he collided with PC Derek Hearn.
PC Hearn’s bodycam film shows Geddes speeding towards him before driving through a chicane and hitting him with the Honda Civic’s hood.
The automobile struck PC Hearn’s leg, knocking him off his bike and onto his left side.
He was going at about 40 mph when the accident occurred.
Geddes sped away from the scene.
During his sentencing on January 10, Southampton Crown Court learned that he was involved in a second collision shortly after.
He accelerated into Lordshill Centre West, where he collided with a Peugeot 108, forcing it off the road.
Geddes then left his car and fled the scene on foot.
The court also heard that prior to the occurrences, he was driving past red lights and going the wrong way around a roundabout.
He was apprehended one week after the crimes were committed.
Following the sentencing, PC Hearn stated, “I feel fortunate that I did not lose a limb or even my life as a result of this occurrence.
“As a police officer, I take pride in performing my duties to the best of my abilities to protect the public. I refuse to take the risk to my life as a result of that.”
Geddes, of Epping Close, Southampton, was imprisoned for four years.
He was also suspended from driving for 32 months.
