Nottingham Forest reveal hands Leeds United and Sheffield United January transfer boost

The Reds are aiming to reduce the size of their first team roster, and they will consider any bids for the defender this month, according to Sky Sports (39:40). This season, Omobamidele has had difficulty finding playing time, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s team is turning out to be one of the Premier League‘s biggest surprises.

The Republic of Ireland international last appeared for the top level team in an April 2024 2-0 loss to Manchester City, and he hasn’t played this season. The Telegraph was the first to reveal Leeds’ interest in signing the center-back this month. But according to Extra, the Whites also have to contend with promotion rivals Sheffield United.For example, due to his lack of playing time, it has now been stated that Nottingham Forest is amenable to Omobamidele leaving this month.

Both a loan and a permanent option are reportedly on the table, which will be advantageous for Sheffield United and Leeds United. Prior to moving to the City Ground in the summer of 2023, Omobamidele played in the Championship with Norwich City. It is unclear what kind of price the Nottinghamshire team would be seeking in a permanent departure this January, even if the Canaries received a sum of £20 million in the sale to Forest.

It’s unlikely that Omobamidele will stay with Forest past February 3rd if they are receptive to both a loan and a permanent offer. Bringing him in temporarily would be a smart move because both Sheffield United and Leeds may use some defensive cover in the second half of the season. Even though he hasn’t performed well under Espirito Santo, he is still a seasoned center-back with the know-how to compete in the Premier League. Bringing him in on loan would be a far worse short-term solution for both clubs.
