Exclusive: Leeds respond to ‘concrete interest’ in Wilfried Gnonto from Saudi
Several Saudi Arabian teams are interested in Leeds attacker Wilfried Gnonto this month, according to sources who spoke to Football Insider. Last August, the 21-year-old winger committed to a new Leeds deal that will keep him at Elland Road through the end of the 2027–2028 campaign. But according to insiders, the wealthy Saudi Pro League has “concrete interest” in Gnonto. Leeds, who are aiming for automatic promotion from the Championship back to the Premier League, do not want to sell the Italy international this month.
Leeds United’s position on Wilfried Gnonto’s possible departure was made public.
After losing to Southampton in the play-off final last season, Daniel Farke’s team was not immediately promoted back to the top division of English football. After 26 games of the regular season, they are now one point ahead of the play-off spots and at the top of the current Championship rankings.Since then, the winger has made 98 appearances for the team across all competitions, scoring 17 goals and dishing out 12 assists, including four goals and five assists in 26 games this season (Transfermarkt).
Additionally, he has won 13 times for Italy at the senior international level. Everton, a Premier League team, had previously expressed interest in him during the summer transfer window. His team’s next game is Saturday night, January 11, when they play League Two team Harrogate Town at Elland Road in the FA Cup third round. In other news, Leeds plans to use the January transfer window to get a new goalkeeper.
