‘A roll of the dice – but Robins suits Stoke’
On the BBC’s A Cold Wet Tuesday Night podcast, Stoke City supporter George Weaver, popularly known as
Potterlytics, has been discussing Mark Robins’ hiring and his first game as manager with Lucas Yeomans.
Three days after Robins came on New Year’s Day, the Potters drew 0-0 with Plymouth, who are currently at the
bottom of the league, on Saturday.
“In a vacuum, I’m pretty excited about the Mark Robins appointment in terms of who is available,” said Potterlytics.
He did fantastic work at Coventry.
“I don’t think Mark Robins was a part of any long-term plans at Stoke prior to the issues with Narcis Pelach and how
disastrous that went.
“It’s more like tossing the dice again, but I think Robins has come in to carry out some of his own long-term ideas,
and that’s okay.
“On the positive side, this is a dice roll that’s more likely to work out. I think he suits the club, I think he suits what
we’re looking for at this point in time but it’s still a dice roll.
“There’s no way this is what Stoke were looking to do when they brought in Pelach, when they brought in Jon
Walters, when they brought in [Steven] Schumacher in the first place.
“Robins is a pretty decent fit and probably more likely to come off than some of the previous ones.”
Potterlytics went on to comment on the performance versus Plymouth: “The main lesson learnt was that after 45 to
50 minutes, the great bulk of that starting XI were completely exhausted.
The manner in which they performed during the Burnley and Sunderland games made that inevitable. “We don’t
have a great depth of squad to work with at the moment,” Robinsons stated after the game.
Thus, it is rather understandable that the performance was a little stale. However, I don’t believe we can infer too
much about Robins’ prospects for the future.”
