Worth way more than Jones: West Brom struck gold on “explosive” £0 star
Despite the fact that the Baggies are still playing their fifth game in all categories without Carlos Corberan in charge today in the FA Cup, it appears that West Bromwich Albion’s quest for a new manager is nearing to a conclusion due to the intense rumors surrounding Raphael Wicky. The Baggies will have a difficult test when they visit AFC Bournemouth of the Premier League in the hopes that interim manager Chris Brunt will pull off an upset. In addition to the current managerial predicament, the Baggies have begun to be connected to January additions on the field, making this possible transaction appear to be dead in the water.
The interest in Isaiah Jones by West Brom
With a rumored £5 million agreement on the table, it did appear that West Brom would be able to get Middlesbrough attacker Isaiah Jones in early January. But in the end, no such agreement materialized, as Lewis Cox, a journalist with Express and Star, disclosed on his X account that the connections between the two parties had been “wide of the mark.”
Those at the Hawthorns may find this to be a blessing in disguise, as £5 million is a hefty price to pay for a winger who hasn’t scored or assisted for Boro this season. Luton Town has since won the race to sign him. Furthermore, given the homegrown ace’s heroics down Jones’ right flank thus far this season, the deal for Jones would have felt even more unnecessary if West Brom had been able to hold onto Tom Fellows throughout January.
West Brom’s fellows’ market value
Fellows has adapted to the demands of the Championship like a duck to water after being thrown into the deep end once or twice under Corberan during the 2023–24 season. The incredibly self-assured 21-year-old has contributed an incredible 12 goals in league play thus far, 10 of which are shockingly assists. These goals typically occur when the West Brom youngster is sprinting forward quickly and creating opportunities for clinical players like Josh Maja to tap in.
Naturally, there will be a lot of happiness in the air as Fellows continues to destroy the second division, with football talent scout Jacek Kulig calling his incredible performances “explosive.” With Everton already mentioned as an interested side keeping a close eye on the Solihull-born forward, the main worry will be that a higher-up poacher will make a sizable move for the 21-year-old at some point during this busy month.
