Tottenham pushing for stunning double PSG raid as talks open for long-time centre-back target
Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly in talks to recruit a long-term centre-back goal who is presently playing with another significant target, Randal Kolo Muani, at French champions PSG.
Spurs are seeking to add to Ange Postecoglou’s injury-hit squad this month, following the signing of Czech Republic Under-21 goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who impressed on debut against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
According to TT, the club is still looking for a striker, another winger, and a left-sided centre-back, with Kolo Muani capable of filling those two offensive positions despite only playing as a No.9 for PSG this season.
Tottenham are close to signing France international Kolo Muani on loan with an option to buy, according to reports on Thursday.
PSG manager Luis Enrique has dropped the France international and center-back Milan Skriniar, both of whom have struggled to gain a starting spot this season.
According to L’Equipe, Spurs have extended a loan offer to the defender, allowing him to leave Paris.Enrique has preferred to utilize Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, and Lucas Beraldo this season, with Skriniar making only five league appearances.
Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Turkish giants are all rumored to be interested in signing the Slovakian, who was once regarded as one of the best defenders in European football while at Inter.
Skriniar is paid well in Paris, which is why the loan-to-buy option is being considered, but the fact that he is left-sided and can also play as an emergency left-back ticks a lot of boxes for Postecoglou.
If Skriniar does join in north London, he will instantly provide serious challenge for Tottenham’s first-choice partnership of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Both players are currently injured, with January 2024 signing Radu Dragusin having an extended run in the side alongside makeshift central defender Archie Gray. However, Postecoglou is well aware that the center-back position as a whole is short on numbers, despite 18-year-old Gray stepping in admirably as cover, and has been eyeing another experienced option. The report from L’Equipe does not mention what sort of fee could be involved to sign Skriniar.
Depending on how long Romero and Van de Ven are out, Skriniar will likely start with Dragusin, allowing Gray to contend for his more natural defensive midfield role.
A doctor who examined CCTV footage of Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury during the Carabao Cup semi-final, first leg win over Liverpool has proposed a suggestion as to why the Tottenham midfielder was stretchered off.
Moments earlier, footage of Bentancur showed him doing something peculiar with his jaw, swinging it from side to side, leading to speculation that it was a foreshadowing to what happened next.
According to Dr. Gareth Nye, a lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of Salford, the Uruguayan’s swinging jaw may have been unrelated to his injury. Nye believes the Uruguayan may have only suffered a bad concussion. Meanwhile, Manchester City is in talks to sign a defender who Tottenham has targeted, and Pep Guardiola’s side has stated that they will pay the full asking price, according to TEAMtalk.
