Southampton FC have confirmed the signing of Joachim Kayi Sanda (18) from Valenciennes FC. The teenage centre-back, who has captained France at the U18 and U19 levels, is regarded as one of his generation’s best talents.
Kayi Sanda became a key member of VAFC’s team last season, appearing in the most of the club’s run to the Coupe de France semi-finals. However, he did not play in the 3-0 defeat against Olympique Lyonnais.
VAFC’s season ended in disappointment, as they finished last in Ligue 2 and were relegated to the Championnat National. Kayi Sanda, on the other hand, continued his development and was a nearly constant presence in the squad.
He has now left his former club for their sister team, Southampton. It is unclear whether he will play for the Premier League club this season or if they will allow him to progress at a different level.
