Middlesbrough Mark Travers January transfer truth as goalkeeper situation assessed
Mark Travers could be a possibility if Middlesbrough decides to bring in a goalkeeper after evaluating their current situation in January. The Ireland and Bournemouth goalkeeper, who may be available on loan this month, has reportedly drawn interest from Boro. If Boro decides to recruit a goalkeeper this month, Teesside Live is aware that Travers is a player they would be interested in.
At the moment, they are evaluating their goalkeeping options to see if that is necessary. It comes after Sol Brynn sustained a shoulder injury that is predicted to keep him out until at least the end of March. Dieng has been sidelined since the beginning of December due to a hip flexor injury, and despite his recent social media posts indicating that he will be “back soon,” the problem is still preventing him from playing, and it is unclear when he will be able to return. The only senior option left for Boro is Tom Glover, while Shea Connor, 19, is currently on the bench.
Because Bournemouth is likely to let the 25-year-old go on loan, Boro may be able to buy a keeper this month, and Travers is one alternative being considered. However, the Cherries won’t be able to release Travers until after their match against Chelsea on Tuesday because first-choice keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is on loan from the Blues and won’t be available for that match, so Boro may be patient in weighing their choices. Watford reportedly has interest as well.
Travers seems to be a perfect fit for Michael Carrick’s preferred style of goalkeeping. He’s comfortable with the ball at his feet and a great shot-stopper. He was the Cherries’ number one when they were promoted back to the Premier League in 2022, and Jonathan Woodgate knew him from his days as coach. Since then, he has made 20 Premier League appearances and spent the first three months of the previous campaign on loan at Stoke City.
