Jose Mourinho to Everton?! Toffees make decision on ‘Special One’ after firing Sean Dyche before FA Cup tie with Peterborough..

Everton have apparently decided whether or not to employ Jose Mourinho after sacking Sean Dyche hours before their third-round FA Cup match. What happened? Everton made the decision to fire former Burnley manager Dyche on Thursday afternoon, with an FA Cup match against Peterborough United just hours away. According to The Athletic, Fenerbahce boss Mourinho is ‘not in contention’ to take over the Toffees, who are now 16th in the Premier League.

THE BIGGER PICTURE This decision comes less than a month after The Friedkin Group finalised its buyout of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, who was not a popular figure on Merseyside. According to The Telegraph, former Toffees manager David Moyes is set to be highly considered for the vacant post, but ex-Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been “ruled out” because he was previously ousted by the Friedkin Group during his stint at Roma.

Mourinho stated in October that he is “ready” to return to the Premier League following a stint at Fenerbahce and would like to coach a club “at the bottom” of the table. He told reporters, “The best thing I can do when I leave Fener is to join a club that does not compete in UEFA competitions.” So, if a bottom-tier English club needs a coach in two years, I’m available.”

WHAT NEXT?

Everton confirmed that Under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of the Peterborough game as they search for a new manager.
