Exclusive: Michael Ihiekwe ‘keen’ to leave Sheffield Wednesday as enquiries made

According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Michael Ihiekwe is eager to leave Sheffield Wednesday this month because to interest from League One and Championship teams. Ihiekwe, 32, wants to leave Hillsborough in pursuit of consistent first-team action after falling down the hierarchy this season. Wednesday is willing to let the center-back go, and teams from both the top of League One and the bottom of the Championship have expressed interest.

This season, the former Wolves and Liverpool defender has only made six appearances in all competitions, four of which have been in the league. Ihiekwe has only made the match-day squad four times since September, when he last played in the Championship. Having signed a deal with Hillsborough in 2022, the defender is now prepared for a new challenge.

Michael Ihiekwe is trying to find a regular football position.

With 465 games played, the center defender has a wealth of experience already in his career. He has previously played in the Championship and League Two, but most of those have been in League One.If the proper offer is made, Wednesday is willing to allow him leave the team, which might lead to him being given a new opportunity starting in January. As they try to compete for promotion to the Premier League in the second half of the season, the Owls are presently in 10th place in the Championship. If Danny Rohl decides to rotate his team, Ihiekwe may get the opportunity to play when Wednesday returns to action on Saturday, January 11, in the FA Cup.
