The Dallas Cowboys are now anticipated to begin contract negotiations with head coach Mike McCarthy after a dismal season.
After the club finished 7-10 and missed the playoffs, owner Jerry Jones has not yet committed to McCarthy’s future, and his current contract expires on Tuesday.
However, the parties are anticipated to begin contract negotiations on Friday and “remain open” to cooperating, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Although there haven’t been any official talks yet, that development follows many days of rumored conversations between McCarthy and the franchise.
“There are still ‘other issues’ to resolve,” Pelissero said, adding that most of McCarthy’s assistants would be allowed to start their next assignments on Tuesday.
In the past, Dallas turned down the Chicago Bears’ desire to interview McCarthy for the role of head coach.
