Lewis Hall is a true gem for Newcastle United.
After first signing on loan from Chelsea in the summer, Hall has improved significantly over the past 18 months.
Hall’s preseason performance was impressive, and the Premier League has seen him maintain that form. The 21-year-old has participated in all 20 of Newcastle’s Premier League games thus far this year and has contributed three assists.
Due to the long-term injury setbacks of Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, which forced Dan Burn to switch to the middle of defense, Hall has had greater playing time. Hall has stated that Botman should be Newcastle’s starting left-back for many years to come, even now that he is back.
Hall made his debut in England’s 3-0 victory over Greece in November after receiving his maiden England call-up as a reward for his efforts. In the Three Lions camp, he teamed up with Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento.
The young defender had some early difficulties settling in, but those are now long gone.
Recent statements have now demonstrated Hall’s progress over the past 12 months.

It wasn’t until the end of the season that Hall had the desired effect on Newcastle’s team while on loan.
Although Hall’s goal in a May loss to Manchester United was the game’s high point, there was also indication that he was getting better defensively.
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards claims that Hall has “listened and learned” from Newcastle employees Stephen Perches and Jason Tindall. According to insiders, Hall’s capacity to absorb information and apply it to this game has earned him the nickname “sponge.”
According to Edwards, Hall has trained more than any other player during the past 12 months. It is thought that Hall stayed behind almost every day to work on additional aspects of his game, sometimes for as little as a few hours at a time.
Hall is clearly benefiting from his additional training, and Howe is happy with his progress.

Howe had no choice but to use Hall in that position while Burn switched to center-back because Matt Targett was out at the same time as Botman and Lascelles.
Howe has been praising Hall a lot lately; in December, he was questioned about his most recent efforts.
“Lewis has been very consistent,” he remarked. He has been a beacon of hope for us, which is difficult for someone so young.
“I believe that he has demonstrated exceptional technical ability, good defensive play, self-control, and maturity both on and off the field.”
The 21-year-old made another impression on Tuesday, deftly winning a foul to give Newcastle the lead against Arsenal in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
