“Wycombe and Wrexham must be concerned” – Sky Sports pundit drops Huddersfield Town claim

“Wycombe and Wrexham must be concerned” – Sky Sports pundit drops Huddersfield Town claim

Don Goodman thinks Huddersfield Town is in a great position for automatic promotion after their 1-0 victory over

Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday night put them just four points behind of the top two in League One.

With a 1-0 victory, Huddersfield increased their league winning streak to 15 games. Adams Park following Herbie

Kane’s incredible volley in the 15th minute proved to be the game-winning goal, solidifying Town’s play-off standing

and holding their opponents in second place at bay.

The first 20 minutes were dominated by Huddersfield, who fired several shots at Wycombe’s goal. Callum Marshall’s

attempt sailed over the bar, and he was later denied by Franco Ravizzoli in the Wycombe goal. Just five minutes

later, Kane gave the Terriers the lead with a brilliant strike after Ben Wiles’ corner was punched away by Ravizzoli.

Despite being flat, Wycombe had a few chances, including a narrowly missed attempt from Tyreeq Bakinson, but

they became better in the second half and gave Huddersfield their best effort. After a scramble was generated by

Cameron Humphreys’ cross, Bakinson’s attempt was saved, then Jacob Chapman denied Richard Kone three times.

Dan Udoh came near and Fred Onyedima blasted a shot over the goal, but Huddersfield held firm and closed the

distance, putting Michael Duff’s team in a good position after years of outstanding League One play.

Don Goodman’s Huddersfield Town verdict

Don Goodman was questioned about Huddersfield’s chances of earning automatic promotion in the competition for

the top two after expressing his recent admiration for the team. He added, “Huddersfield Town is on a great run of

form, but their last two draws must frustrate them,” in an interview with Football League World via Plejmo.com.

They were present at home for both, and based on the statistics, they were completely in control.

“They are currently four points behind the top three, although they have games in hand against Wycombe and

Wrexham and are on a 15-game winning streak. Now that they have defeated Wycombe away from home and have to

face both Wycombe and Wrexham at home, they are still very much in the running for automatic promotion.

“Town will think that those four things are amenable to compromise. Wycombe and Wrexham must be worried

because Huddersfield has put together such a strong run. Although seven points seems like a lot, they still have

games left, thus it may potentially drop to less than four points very rapidly.

“It’s all to play for.”

Huddersfield Town’s promotion credentials under Michael Duff

Michael Duff

Duff’s appointment in the summer brought optimism, with a solid start to the campaign and a number of strong

signings also following. They were always expected to be among the promotion favourites, though they will need to

contend with Birmingham City’s lavish spending if they are to challenge for the title in the second half of the

campaign.

Despite their inconsistent start to the league season, Huddersfield has begun to improve in recent months. This fact,

along with having one of the league’s best teams and a manager who has the experience and background to be

successful in a more relaxed setting, should lead to success this season.

January will also be important for their chances of getting promoted. Town is still in the running for promotion, but

they are a little further back than they would have liked to be at this point, despite having recently made up a lot of

distance. If they want to return to the Championship at the first attempt, they must address a number of problems

throughout the season, such as sourcing.
