Don Goodman believes West Brom will need to submit a “attractive” plan to appoint Steve Cooper as their new manager.
The Sky Sports expert believes the Baggies will need more than money to persuade the Welshman to replace Carlos Corberan, who left for Valencia over the holidays. Cooper is regarded as an obvious candidate for The Albion, but will reportedly require assurances about their promotion hopes. Speaking to Plejmo via Football League World (8 January), Goodman stated: “Steve Cooper is an easy choice for me, and he is out of job. “To get him, however, they’d have to make it an appealing offer, and I don’t mean in terms of how much he’ll be paid, but whether he believes Albion can compete for promotion. Cooper worked his way up the English coaching ranks, managing the Three Lions’ minor teams before taking over at Swansea. The 45-year-old then joined Nottingham Forest, where he led the club from the Championship’s bottom tier to the Premier League. While the Welsh national has struggled in recent months, including being fired by Leicester, he remains one of the finest candidates to take over at The Hawthorns. West Brom are now fighting for a play-off spot, with Corberan putting the squad in a solid position before departing.
