Sky Sports Sunderland star breaks silence on his future amid Premier League links as ‘ridiculous offer’ mooted.
A few Sunderland players are garnering interest from Premier League clubs. However, with the Black Cats vying for promotion, Kyril Louis-Dreyfus appears to be blocking the majority of assaults on his players.
However, Sunderland is mostly a selling club. As are most of the Championship clubs, which are required to compete financially with those who drop out of the Premier League each season. After being out of the top flight for nearly eight years, the Black Cats need to bring in as much money as they can. Sunderland made a wise decision by selling Jack Clarke for £20 million last summer, with more sales predicted in 2025. Jobe Bellingham is currently garnering a lot of interest, with Arsenal and Crystal Palace closely linked. However, youthful custodian Matty youthful has been linked with a surprise Premier League move. The Black Cats Academy man is impressing on loan at Salford City this season, where the 18-year-old has kept eight clean sheets in 14 total appearances.
Matty Young discusses his Sunderland future
Manchester City is reportedly keeping tabs on Young. However, the youngster is under contract at the Stadium of Light until 2028, thus Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and co. are under no obligation to sell. And the Sunderland owner, along with Regis Le Bris and everyone else involved, will be thrilled to learn that Young wants to continue with the club and one day become the number one custodian. Young told the club: “I have been with the club for more than a decade. I’ve always backed Sunderland AFC. As both a player and a supporter, this area means everything to me.
“I want to play for this club in the future, that is the goal for me. I am working my way up to hopefully get my opportunity. I am really pleased with the progress I am making so far.”
Manchester City need ‘ridiculous offer’ to sign Matty Young
Anthony Patterson is now the No. 1 at Sunderland. However, it is no secret that he is also interested in the Premier League, with Manchester United being linked with Patterson earlier in the 2024/25 season. Young may be the inevitable successor to Patterson at the Stadium of Lights. Sunderland appears unlikely to sell, and pundit Carlton Palmer agrees. Speaking to Football League World, Palmer stated that City would have to make a ‘crazy offer’ to sign Young from the Black Cats. He stated, “I very much doubt that Sunderland will sell him unless, of course, Manchester City make a ridiculous offer.”
“We know how they work and Sunderland would then reinvest that money somewhere else. But, as I say, it would have to be a ridiculous offer to sell.”
Young’s Salford City actually play Manchester City in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
