Sheffield Wednesday ‘submit offer’ for striker – along with Championship rivals

Sheffield Wednesday have lodged a bid to bring a talented Australian striker to Hillsborough, according to reports.

The Owls were connected with Brisbane Roar forward Thomas Waddingham earlier this month, and according to Football Insider, their interest has progressed to an official proposal for the 19-year-old. QPR, another Championship club, is alleged to have made a bid as well.
Roar are struggling this season, with only two points from 11 league games, but teenaged Waddingham has been a bright spot, scoring four of their ten goals and providing an assist. It follows an outstanding seven-goal performance in his breakthrough season.

The revelation comes after media in Brisbane suggested Waddingham’may have played his final home game’ for the club and was expected to leave due to increased interest. Roar are operating on a tight budget, so any suitors will be hoping for a bargain. According to the source, a fee will be required because Waddingham’s contract extends until 2026.

Despite a continuous breakdown in communication between the dugout and the boardroom about transfer talks, things look to be going forward on the transfer front following a slow start. The Star reported on Wednesday that Ipswich Town defender Harry Clarke is one of several potential Owls targets if he becomes available.

Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has expressed his desire to add ‘huge impact’ attacking players to his side as they aim to move up the league in the second half of the season.
