Sheffield Wednesday boss makes strong Josh Windass statement amid Santos interest
Danny Röhl, Sheffield Wednesday’s manager, has been open about his thoughts on Josh Windass’ future with the Owls.
Windass has piqued the curiosity of Brazilian giants Santos, as his former Rangers boss, Pedro Caixhinha, tries to bring him on board in Serie A, but no offer has been made to the Owls that they have judged acceptable as of the time of writing.
The attacker is currently in the final six months of his Hillsborough contract, but there is a one-year option in place that could see Wednesday extend it by another year, giving them an advantage in any potential negotiations with Santos, and Röhl says he wants the 30-year-old to stay at Hillsborough.
“I don’t care if it’s true or a rumour,” he told the journalists. “It’s important that there are no question marks…” Josh is an important player for me, and I want to retain him here. I want to see him on the field, and I hope he can score 10 more goals. Having 20 would be amazing, and I believe that is what we are working on.
“Josh has made good progress; I don’t know his entire past, but when compared to previous year, it’s been a significant improvement. He can contribute to the team by playing more minutes, scoring, and making a significant difference. I believe it demonstrates that we can develop and enhance players, which is amazing to see.”
Windass is presently having the best Championship season of his career and will be eager to add to his total when league action returns against Leeds United, with the former Accrington Stanley man expected to be rested for this weekend’s FA Cup trip to Coventry City.
