Rangers begin transfer clear out as ‘valuable’ Cyriel Dessers price tag set while Yilmaz and Hagi resolve tested.
The club could boost the Ibrox coffers with some big sales.
Rangers have had a quiet transfer window so far in terms of incomings, but Philippe Clement has continued his squad rebuilding by signing some Ibrox peripheral players. Cole McKinnon is the latest reserve talent to leave Ayr United on loan, joining Robbie Fraser at Livingston in the Scottish Championship. According to speculations, Adam Devine, who has only six months left on his contract, might join the Colts’ pair and go forever. According to reports in England, Birmingham City are considering a January move for the 21-year-old, who has not played in the first team in 16 months. The Daily Mail also note that Alex Lowry could be moved on this month having failed to make his mark under Clement. The 21-year-old made a top team appearance for the club in December 2023 – and has now entered the final six months of his contract.
But who could the Rangers try to sign to help bolster their finances? According to Kevin Thomson, Cyriel Desser could be leaving because Cagliari is interested. The frontman began the campaign as the first-choice frontman at Ibrox, but has quickly fallen out of favour after the arrival of Hamza Igamane. According to Tutto Mercato Web, the Serie A team wants a loan deal with the option to buy, but the Light Blues are pressing for a £4 million sell this month. When asked if the striker is a player who could cost a reasonable fee, Thomson told the BBC’s Scottish Football podcast: “I believe so. The Old Firm provides an excellent platform.
“I think Dessers is a good asset to the club. I think his record is there for all to see, albeit he is not playing at the moment, but he scores goals. He has a good profile and is at a good age. I think these players that put the ball in the back of the net do become a bit more valuable. I think for the club they want to get as much money as possible, and I do think Dessers is one that will fetch the club some money.”
Trabzonspor are apparently interested in Ridvan Yilmaz, although they will face competition from Besiktas to sign the left-back. According to Turkish publication Fanatik, new Besiktas manager Serdar Topraktepe has added Yilmaz to the club’s ‘transfer list’. Yilmaz moved to Glasgow for £3.4 million from the Istanbul side. The defender has been employed at right-back in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen whether Nils Koppen and Clement are willing to sell at this time. Ianis Hagi, for example, does not appear to be leaving. The Romanian has rekindled his Rangers career after being out of the frame at the start of the season. However, Genoa’s interest appears to have remained unaffected. Digi Sport reports that the Serie A team owned by Romanian Dan Țucu – are considering a lowball £1.2m offer to test the Light Blues’ resolve.
