Ipswich Town in talks to sign versatile 23 y/o int’l attacker for McKenna

The Tractor Boys, who are now ranked 18th in the Premier League, are fighting hard on the field to keep from being demoted. But away from the action, Portman Road executives have already been utilizing the January transfer window to make moves.

As the first addition of 2025, center-back Ben Godfrey, formerly a rival of Norwich City, joined on loan from Serie A team Atalanta.

“I’ve played against Ipswich over the years, so obviously I know about the size of the club and when I spoke to the manager, he really sold it to me and I’m looking forward to being part of this project,” Godfrey said after signing a contract for the rest of the season.

“I had heard from football folks that he was an excellent manager and coach before I even spoke with him. He has a stellar coaching record, having coached some outstanding players, and I believe it is an incredible opportunity to work with him. I’m eagerly anticipating that.

“I think it’s clear from watching the games that they are a close-knit group that is doing all in their power to try to stay in this league, and it’s fantastic for me to be a part of that. We’ll exert every effort to accomplish it. I’ve had the good fortune to be a part of some excellent dressing rooms thus far in my career, and Ipswich will undoubtedly be no different.

However, there are rumors that McKenna wants up to five new players at Ipswich in January, so it might not be simply Godfrey who shows up at Portman Road.

With a £30 million deal suggested for Botafogo striker Igor Jesus and a £16 million bid for Liverpool’s Ben Doak rebuffed, it appears the club is considering adding a player in the final third. A new name has now surfaced.

Ipswich Town in talks for Patrick Wimmer

According to sources from Italy, supplied by Sport Witness, Ipswich Town have initiated conversations with the entourage of VfL Wolfsburg forward Patrick Wimmer over a prospective transfer.

The Tractor Boys aren’t alone in their interest, either, with Italian teams Como and AS Roma also keen on the 23-year-old.

Wimmer, an Austrian international, would provide McKenna with a flexible attacking option if Ipswich were to sign him. He can play as a right-winger, left-winger, or attacking midfielder.
