The 53-year-old, a former goalkeeping coach for Newcastle United, left a cozy position in Arsenal’s development department four years ago to enter management. Woodman gained a grasp of elite football during his time working under Alan Pardew at the Magpies, Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Charlton Athletic.
He was a member of the Toon team that placed sixth in 2011–12, a season that included trips to Bordeaux, Benfica, and Club Brugge and left him with lifelong memories. Woodman, who will return to St. James’ Park on Sunday as manager of Bromley, still has a soft spot for Newcastle.
“I honestly don’t think I could say enough good things about Newcastle,” he said on National World TV. “It was an incredible experience.” I am aware that the football team was going through a tough period due to other problems, but I have stated publicly that Alan Pardew’s actions under the circumstances, including John Carver and me, were outrageous.
