Hamza Igamane’s Rangers break-up is inevitable as Philippe Clement urges fans to enjoy love affair while it lasts
It would make perfect sense if Rangers supporters were apprehensive about becoming overly connected to Hamza Igamane. The last time they let themselves be completely sucked into a romantic relationship with a striker, they ended up breaking up because they didn’t obtain what they were hoping for from the separation settlement. One of the reasons the Ibrox board chose to reject multi-million-pound offers during Steven Gerrard’s reign was the close bond between Alfredo Morelos and the supporters.
However, the Colombian’s decision to let his standards drop and eventually waddle away from Ibrox on a free in the summer of 2023 proved to be a costly mistake. As they evaluate the developing potential of their weekend hat-trick hero, the Rangers board will obviously be reluctant to replicate the hugely squandered opportunity to cash in. Igamane has scored 10 goals in his previous 11 games thanks to his Easter Road treble, and there are already rumors that the Premier League is interested in him. Everton is reportedly keeping an eye on his development.
Not when Ibrox’s financial situation now dictates that everyone has a cost. Clement, however, advised the fans to appreciate Igamane while he is here and insisted that they shouldn’t worry about letting the 22-year-old into their hearts in the interim. The former Club Brugge and Monaco manager argued, “No, no, they need to be attached because that helps also the player, it gives him a lot of energy and confidence.” Additionally, we are not the only club in the world that behaves in such a manner. Football is the current world, and I played a lot of it at my previous clubs.
“There is no way to stop someone from taking the next, higher level when it benefits both the player and the club. I witnessed Benoit Badiashile move from Monaco to Chelsea and Aurelien Tchouameni move from Monaco to Madrid. Many players from Genk left for larger teams, while Charles de Ketelaere moved from Brugge to AC Milan. For a player, it is therefore a component of the narrative.
“As a player, I have also done it. In football, it’s common. However, it’s critical to understand when it’s best for both the player and the organization. Those are fascinating things. For Hamza, I have no doubt that it will be something for the future. Not anytime soon, though.
