Update emerges on John Eustace’s Blackburn Rovers situation and West Brom rumours

Update emerges on John Eustace’s Blackburn Rovers situation and West Brom rumours

West Brom has not made any bid to Blackburn Rovers for John Eustace, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

This season, Blackburn Rovers have greatly exceeded expectations, and manager John Eustace is largely responsible for their success.

In February 2024, the 45-year-old showed up in Ewood Park with a mission to accomplish. He came with the responsibility of leading Rovers to safety in the face of relegation to League One after being controversially fired by Birmingham City.

Eustace did exactly that, but many believed the former Premier League winners would be relegated from the Championship once more after Sammie Szmodics left in the summer. Given that Blackburn Rovers is currently in seventh place and still very much in the running for the playoffs, that couldn’t have been further from reality.

Many people have praised Eustace’s work, and there have been many connections to his departure. West Brom is the most recent team rumoured to be considering a move, but the Lancashire Telegraph has now provided an update on his circumstances.

They claim that neither the Baggies nor Blackburn Rovers have made any formal proposals for Eustace.

Coventry City and Hull City considered moves after their respective managerial changes but never firmed up their interest and at this stage, West Brom are yet to do so as well.

Reassuring for Rovers fans

With speculation over potential moves for Eustace arising with such regularity, Blackburn Rovers will welcome news that while interest has emerged, no one has actually made a concrete play to tempt him away from Ewood Park at this stage.

Of course, that is all subject to change, but for the meantime, they can breathe a sigh of relief with West Brom the latest linked.

It feels as though new speculation is only so far around the corner though. Not only is Eustace doing admirable work in Lancashire, but he’s only under contract until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

If that remains the case, you can’t help but feel other clubs will start to take note of his situation.

The task ahead

Blackburn Rovers are in for an uphill battle in the fight for a play-off spot. Those around them have enjoyed a higher level of investment in recent transfer windows and in years gone by and after all, few expected them to be in such a position.

It will be hoped that the levels displayed throughout the first half of the season can be sustained over the upcoming weeks and months, though, as success sets new benchmarks.

Even if it may be difficult, Eustace will be committed to continuing to get the most out of his team. With the manager hoping to strengthen his ranks, a successful winter transfer window will be quite beneficial.

On the football, the focus will be on the FA Cup this weekend, as they will be visiting Middlesbrough. On Wednesday, they play Portsmouth at home in their rescheduled Championship match.
