Tuesday night Arne Engels transfer rumour

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Atalanta is monitoring Celtic player Arne Engels.
The Serie A giants, with whom the Hoops drew 0-0 in the UEFA Champions League a few months ago, are claimed to ‘appreciate’ the Belgian and will ‘continue to monitor him’, but their interest is unlikely to extend beyond that for the time being.

Engels only joined Celtic this summer. At £11 million, he was a club record signing, and despite a few poor performances here and there, as any young player does, Engels has mostly pleased.
So far in 2024/25, the 21-year-old has 14 goals in 26 appearances for the Hoops across all competitions, and he has the joint-second most assists in the UEFA Champions League up to this point in the competition’s early stages.

Atalanta’s interest is unsurprising, but Celtic still have all the cards, with Engels under contract in Glasgow’s east end until 2028.

If a potential transfer were ever contemplated, the club would want substantially more than the £11 million they spent on the teenager in the summer, according to Pedulla’s report, which states that Celtic’s current estimate is between £18 and £19 million.

Atalanta will keep an eye on the former Augsburg man throughout the season, but Brendan Rodgers will want to keep a player he was anxious to bring to Scotland just a few months ago.
