As it stands, Southampton sit rock bottom of the Premier League league. Despite being in the second half of the season, Southampton haven’t even broken the double-digits threshold in terms of points. With just six points on the board, they aren’t even close.
The Saints currently face a significant chance of becoming the poorest team in Premier League history. They would deprive Derby County of the privilege in the process.
So, in this imaginary universe, where has the supercomputer projected Southampton to finish and how many points will they end on?
Supercomputer predicts Southampton to finish bottom with 19 points
Southampton is expected to finish at the bottom of the standings, as projected by the Opta supercomputer based on 90 minutes. Nonetheless, some people are happy that the Saints will end with 19 points according to this prediction. Hooray! This would prevent them from being the worst team in Premier League history.
Naturally, Southampton would finish outside of the relegation zone in a perfect world. This was a remote possibility when Ivan Juric was named manager. He hasn’t yet put his desired style of football into practice, though, and it now appears that the Saints will be demoted.
It wouldn’t be great to watch the players give up hope. Although it would take a miracle, there is a slim chance that relegation can be avoided. However, if there is even a glimmer of hope in the Southampton dressing room, it would be a miracle.
It was encouraging to see Adam Lallana recently accept the reality of being demoted. Southampton players must not brush it under the carpet – they’re primarily to fault, so they should address it to the supporters.
