Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich have ‘eye’ on bringing ex-Man Utd star back to Premier League, he knew him well at Old Trafford.
Kieran McKenna could be reunited with a former Manchester United star after Ipswich Town have been tipped for a shock move, according to reports in France.
The 38-year-old advanced his coaching career at Old Trafford, where he worked as Manchester United’s assistant manager under Jose Mourinho. Kieran McKenna remained on the coaching staff after Jose Mourinho was fired in 2018 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer returned to Old Trafford. Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s resignation in 2021, McKenna worked under former United interim manager Ralf Rangnick until leaving the club. The former United assistant manager began his managerial career with Ipswich Town and has since experienced success at Portman Road.
McKenna and Ipswich linked with ex-Man Utd man
Kieran McKenna, who was previously associated with Manchester United, successfully led Ipswich Town back to the Premier League at the end of the 2023-24 Championship season. However, Ipswich’s return to top-flight English football has not been simple, with McKenna’s side now 18th in the Premier League table for the 2024-25 season.
McKenna, who guided Ipswich to consecutive league promotions, might potentially be reunited with a former Manchester United star at Portman Road. According to Foot Mercato, Ipswich are keeping a ‘watch’ on Nemanja Matic, a former United and Chelsea midfielder. Nemanja Matic was reunited with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford after joining United from the Blues in 2017. The 36-year-old Serbian midfielder left the Red Devils in 2022, going on to play for Roma and Rennes until joining current club Lyon in 2024.
