Colchester United defender Frankie Terry made EFL debut
After the teenage defender made his first EFL start, Danny Cowley, the head coach of Colchester United, predicted that Frankie Terry would have a “really good career.”
In the U’s 2-0 loss to Accrington Stanley last weekend, Terry made his league debut in the starting lineup.
In the League Two match, the 20-year-old, the nephew of former Chelsea and England great John Terry, started at left back for the U’s.
The teenage defender played well this season while on loan at Braintree Town of the National League before being called up by the U’s last week.
“I’m proud of Frankie—he’s going to have a really good career,” Cowley added.
Since he has been out on loan and has very seldom been in the building, the situation was extremely difficult.
Terry, who has now made five professional appearances for Colchester, was substituted by Arthur Read after playing 55 minutes against Accrington.
“To try to bring us a little bit more attacking intent, we brought Arthur (Read), a left footer, in and took Frankie off,” Cowley stated.
Last week, Terry wasn’t the only player to depart Braintree.
Lucas Covolan, the goalie, also left the Iron after his contract expired.
The Brazilian goalkeeper joined the team in August after playing a standout game for George Elokobi’s Maidstone United team in the FA Cup the previous season.
“We can confirm that Keeper Lucas Covolan’s contract has come to an end and he will be leaving the club,” Braintree said in a statement.
We want to express our gratitude to Lucas for his dedication during his time at the Iron, having started in August. Lucas, best wishes for the future.
“An iron is an iron forever.”
