Aston Villa transfer decision will open door to Leeds United move but Championship rival confident
With numerous Championship clubs eager to learn their plans for the highly regarded and highly sought-after young talent Louie Barry, Aston Villa is getting closer to make a final decision on what they want to do with him. After lighting up League One while on loan at Stockport County, the 21-year-old winger is currently one of the most sought-after assets in football outside of the Premier League.
In the first part of the season, Barry scored 15 goals in 23 League One games for Stockport County, keeping the Edgeley Park team very much in the running for promotion to the Championship. In an attempt to send the player to a Championship team for the remainder of the season so he may be challenged at a higher level and continue to improve, Villa has summoned up the player from that loan.
According to reports, Leeds United and other teams including Sheffield United, Derby County, and Hull City have expressed interest. There have been rumors that Leeds is actually in the lead to sign the winger, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. For a player with a rising reputation, a chance to play at the top of the Championship would be the perfect test, but it’s believed that Hull City is becoming more and more certain that they can get Barry to join them at the MKM Stadium in their battle against relegation.
The Tigers hope that their previous working relationship will work to their advantage, although Barry is likely to be given more playing time at Hull than at Leeds, who already have a lot of skill out wide. Following the acquisition of Jaden Philogene and subsequent sale to the Premier League team, Hull City and Aston Villa have developed close relationships in the last two years. The two teams had previously had a positive working relationship.
Barry, who was born in Sutton Coldfield, played for West Brom for ten years before making a big move to the Nou Camp, where he stayed for two years. During that time, he became the first Englishman to join the renowned La Masia academy of the Spanish powerhouse. In January 2020, he joined Villa for a reported £880,000, which eventually increased to £3.5 million.
