3 midfielders Sunderland must consider this month amid Le Bris admission and ambitious link
Sunderland wants to bolster their midfield this month in an attempt to continue their push for promotion from the Championship.
Sunderland intends to capitalise on their strong first half of the season by bringing in a few new players this month.
Regis Le Bris sees the January transfer window as a fantastic chance to bolster the team in preparation for the
promotion push, and he has no intention of sitting back and taking the Black Cats’ current position for granted. He has
stated that he wants to strengthen the midfield ranks and has made it obvious that acquisitions are desired.
A few names have been mentioned in relation to a move to the Stadium of Light, but Enzo Le Fee of Roma is by far the most ambitious and striking.
Since Le Fee might be a bit out of reach but Sunderland needs a midfield addition, we proposed three players for consideration this month.
Lewis O’Brien – Nottingham Forest
Given how Lewis O’Brien’s move to Nottingham Forest has gone, some teams would not see the benefits of a half-season loan, but Sunderland must not. Since joining them in 2022, he has hardly played for them, spending time on loan at D.C. United, Middlesbrough, and LAFC.
However, the midfield player has returned to the UK and is expected to sign a new contract this month.
With a wealth of Championship-level experience, the 26-year-old can play a variety of midfield positions and, if necessary, fill in on the left.
Ismael Kone – Marseille
Ismael Kone, a former Watford star, is a target worth considering if the Black Cats are truly wanting to make a splash. He has struggled for playing time since moving to Marseille.
The Canadian international is an incredible talent who can undoubtedly play at a level higher than the Championship. He has only started three Ligue 1 games for the French powerhouses, though, and has been benched in four of the previous five games.
Even if it is only a temporary move before the midfield player reaches the level he deserves, Sunderland would be wise to make a half-season loan raid for Kone.
