West Brom could damage Blackburn Rovers promotion chances on one big condition

West Brom could damage Blackburn Rovers promotion chances on one big condition.

West Bromwich Albion are still looking for a new manager after Carlos Corberan quit last month to take on a new role at Valencia.

Now in the second half of the season, the Baggies must act quickly to bring in a new manager or risk losing their play-off berth, which they presently hold by a thread. According to talkSPORT, Blackburn Rovers is one of the teams chasing them, and their manager, John Eustace, is someone the Baggies admire. Naturally, completing a deal to appoint the manager of one of their immediate promotion rivals will be difficult, but West Brom supporters will point out that they are likely better prepared to return to the Premier League than the Lancashire club. Eustace’s stock has probably never been as high as it is now. so Rovers fans certainly won’t be resting easy amid this latest development, and they’ll know that their promotion hopes this season almost certainly hinge on keeping him.

Blackburn’s promotion hopes could unravel if John Eustace leaves

John Eustace

The revelation that West Brom are interested in Eustace will undoubtedly disappoint Blackburn fans, who will be acutely aware that keeping him is their best chance of finishing in the top six. Failure to retain him would result in a new manager arriving in mid-season with his own ideas and desire to bring his own style of play, none of which are likely to be similar to their current coach. Eustace has succeeded where Jon Dahl Tomasson failed, admitting that Rovers aren’t the best team in the division and that going head-to-head with opponents week in and week out isn’t the best approach to succeed. Without the wealth of their fellow promotion-seekers, the Blackburn boss has made the best of what he’s got at Ewood Park and has made his side incredibly tough to beat.

That’s been their blueprint to winning games, and for someone to come in mid-season if he left and potentially rip all that up, it would be a blow that they would probably never recover from.

Blackburn’s loss wouldn’t necessarily be West Brom’s gain

West Brom will be envious of Eustace’s success at Ewood Park, which is why he’s been linked with the post, but appointing him mid-season may not be as advantageous as it appears. Eustace took over at Blackburn midway through the 23/24 season, and his record was underwhelming to say the least, so West Brom must be concerned about a similar outcome if they chose to poach the Rovers manager.

In the end, he only managed to keep Blackburn up by the skin of their teeth last season, but following a full pre-season, his team has really stepped up this season. West Brom will not have the luxury of spending too much time on the practice pitch. Eustace has clearly laid the framework to have his team going at Ewood Park, and losing him might be disastrous to their prospects of climbing into the top six.
