Sheffield United transfer blow as Championship rivals ‘close’ to 15-goal Leeds United & Middlesbrough target

Sheffield United hold an interest in the 15-goal forward with Chris Wilder keen to bolster his attacking options.

Sheffield United appear to have fallen short in the race for Louie Barry, with sources putting Championship rivals Derby County as surprise frontrunners.

Barry’s impressive performance at Stockport County put him on the radar of almost every Championship club heading into the January transfer window. The 21-year-old scored 15 goals in 23 League One outings and was recently recalled by parent club Aston Villa, who are reportedly considering a second temporary move and promotion to the second division.

This month, United put Barry on a long list of potential targets, with Chris Wilder looking to bolster his offensive options, while Leeds United, Sunderland, and Middlesbrough have also expressed interest. However, none of those main promotion aspirants are currently leading the race, according to journalist Alan Nixon, who is covering Derby’s growing pursuit.
